So, the hubby and I went out to eat for lunch today. It was our treat to ourselves before we locked down for the weekend with the girls (one's in trouble at school, so no fun stuff for anyone). I looked at several restaurants getting an idea of what I would spend points-wise.
We ended up going to a place called HuHot that serves Mongolian BBQ. The sauces are suprisingly easy on the calories, and the rest of the dish is mostly vegetables and your meat of choice (I omitted the noodles from my dishes).
For two big plates of food made with chicken, I used only 8.5 WW points!!! And now that I'm thinking about it, I didn't even eat it all, so I need to take a point or so off.
Anyone else have suggestions for restaurants or types of food to gear towards when you know you'll be going out to eat?

We tend to hit the Japanese Rests. for our dinner dates these days, sashimi and sushi I just LOVE and once in a while, if eaten in moderation, it's okeydokey. The Maki rolls however I've taken off my to-do-list.
I LOVE Mongolian BBQ, Korean too, we used to eat much in Japan.
Wish there were some of those places here, but it's mostly Chinese, Thai and Japanese styles that the French seem to dig.

I always try to get the low fat foods even if we are going to fast food. For examples:
McDs - grilled chicken sandwhich with no mayo, yogurt parafait, ice cream sundae or cone with strawberries (only 3g fat)
Taco Bell - get the grilled chicken tacos instead of beef, and no creamy sauces
Wendys - side salads, baked potatoes, chili
pretty much stay away from anything fried, really fatting dressings or sauces, and red meat

Going out to eat is a tough one for me. I always want a big huge BUD LIGHT DRAFT.. and finish 2 of them by the time we order.... we always fiddle fart around... talk and stuff... then by that time.. I want some yummy food.. so I usually order what ever I want. But we do not go out to eat often..

Well, If we could afford Japanese everytime we go out I would LOL. My hubby is half japanese so we just go to his parents house for some. I eat Maki sushi everyonce in a while. I have found some frozen Gyoza's that are only 250 calories for 8 of them!!!!!
I tend to stick to grilled stuff. Fajitas are good, grilled chicken dishes and stuff like that

OH MAN, Gyoza! I LOVE those lil pillows of garlicy goodness--oishii desYO! I didn't know your Hub is half Nihon-jin, BA? That's cool, (I've spent a fair chunk of time on both Kyushu and Honshu). I am envious of having a sushi-connection so IN the family... Wish I could find those 250 calorie Gyoza in THIS neck of the woods. ENJOYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY,

Sorry for writing "BA" in that post above Maddy. Don't know how I got my wires crossed with you and Blackadder, gomen, ne...
Okinawa is one NEAT place that I have always wanted to spend some time on. I read somewhere that it's one of the last matriarchal societies in the world. Damn interesting.

A couple of things I have found out over the last week or so...
French Onion Soup is low pointage - avg 2 points for 8oz, that's about 100-120 calories, and it includes cheese and bread!
Chicken tortilla soup usually runs about 4-5 points for 8 oz. That is about 200-250 calories.
These have become staples in my Saturday diet since we seem to be going out to eat with the capoeiristas after practice on Saturday's now.

Sushi is nice that way, annnnnnnnnnd in that it's often such a simple food, ingredient-wise. That's half the reason why we've stopped going out to some, well most of our old fav. haunts--those chefs are all about makin' things lip-smackin' good, damn the kinds of fats used and abused, so for us Sushi makes so much sense in so many ways. Sure it's more expensive, but since we now go out for din-din so rarely, we're actually spending less these days in that dept., so it all balances out, literally.
