This is out of one of my magazines. It can be lightened up even more than what they've done here.
Chocolate-Frosted Vanilla Cupcakes
Ingredients 1 - 18.25 oz. package yellow cake mix 1 cup reduced fat sour cream 3/4 cup egg subsitute 1/2 unsweetened applesauce 1 - 2.6 oz. package whipped topping mix 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder 1/4 cup confectioners sugar 1 tsp vanilla extract chocolate jimmies or sprinkles (optional)
Preheat oven to 350F. Line 24 miffin cups with liners. At low speed, combine first four ingredients and 1/4 cup of water. At medium speed, beat 2 minutes. Divide among liners. Bake 20 minutes or until toothpick inserted into centers comes out clean. Cool 10 minutes. Remove from pan; cool. At low speed, beat topping mix with milk until combined. At high speed, beat until peaks form, 4 minutes. At low speed, beat in cocoa, sugar and vanilla. At high speed, beat until fluffy. Spread over cupcakes. If desired, sprinkle with jimmies.

When I have a little more time I'll run the recipe with some additional "lightening" changes and see what I come up with for points.
